The aerial transmits the audio signal from a Contacta hearing loop driver as a magnetic field, and any customer with a hearing aid or cochlear implant switched to the T-coil (telecoil) position picks up the audio directly in their device, cutting out ambient noise and letting them hear the staff side clearly through the barrier.
