The aerial transmits the audio signal from a Contacta hearing loop driver as a magnetic field through the glass, and any customer with a hearing aid or cochlear implant switched to the T-coil (telecoil) position picks up the audio directly in their device, cutting out ambient noise and letting them hear the staff side clearly through the barrier.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe window-mounted design solves three problems that a counter-top or wall aerial does not. First, the aerial mounts on the glass barrier rather than the counter, freeing up counter space that would otherwise be taken by a countertop stand or a wall-hung sign. Second, when the customer side of the counter is outdoors (drive-through pharmacy, ticket booth, airport tarmac counter, outdoor bank teller), the aerial stays indoors on the staff side of the glass, out of the weather.
