This safe struck the right balance of burglar and fire ratings, price and lower weight. The lighter size allowed me to handle positioning and installation on my own. Pleased with the substance of the safe, accuracy of the lock and the interior finish. I had difficulty with mounting anchors, so reference the safe and vault info for the best guidance.

      Initial Impressions / Decision Making

I've only had the Hayman DV-2219 installed for a week or so, but I now know all that I will know until / unless this safe gets tested and I'm hoping that day never comes. The safe arrived in excellent condition with no damage at all to even the packaging. Product quality is excellent. The driver had a pallet jack and I had a rented appliance dolly. He helped me get the pallet on the dolly and secure the straps and pushed into my garage. Might not have been able to use his pallet jack, but probably helped me because I was prepared and I was his last stop of the day. In short, very helpful delivery by Conway. After completing the initial inspection and signing off on it, I tried the combination - worked first and every time.A significant reason that I selected this safe is that the exterior dimensions fit my planned space (the next larger size was an inch too tall), the 3+ cu ft interior was plenty more than I needed and the 276 lbs would allow me to handle the location and bolt down on my own. My preference would be for heavier (C-Rated or TL15), but that was going to lead to complications getting it where I wanted it. Two average people should have no problem moving this (up or down stairs, even) with an appliance dolly. My wife and I even managed a two person lift of the door-less safe into it's final position. While a rating above RSC would have been ideal, we have this safe bolted to a concrete floor with three sides tightly confined by either poured concrete walls or reinforced, filled cinder block. Only the top and front are exposed and it is installed such that it would not be spotted by any typical visitors (ie: repairman, friends, house sitters). I am satisfied that the safe mixed with it's location should amply deter theft. Some things I learned: I was contemplating an in floor safe (the Hayman Poly safes), but scared myself away with the prospects of opening up a concrete floor. What I found is that with the right rotary hammer drill (the $200 variety, not the $89 ones), drilling holes in my concrete was as easy as drilling into wood. If I were to install a floor safe now, I'd have no worries. I would drill holes to create my opening outline and connect the dots with a chisel. A jack hammer would not be realistic in my space and would make a much larger mess. Bottom line is that I would now install a floor safe without much concern.I also found that the anchor bolts provided by Hayman are NOT the ones recommended by the crew at the Safe and Vault store. Regardless of your safe choice, I recommend reviewing their on-line instructions and review particulars for your safe with them before you start the job. I am suitably secured to the floor now (epoxied threaded rod), but would have saved myself some time and frustration if I had checked with them first instead of the manufacturer's site. Another specific note to consider during installation. I chose to remove the door to move from my garage into position. To remove the door, you have to remove two allen head set screws from the underside of each door hinge. I left the door off throughout the installation which now includes my epoxied anchor holes. Well, now that the safe is secured to the floor, I cannot get the bottom set screw back in. It has no effect on the door performance, but I would recommend reinstalling the door (tilt up the safe with a block of wood to access) before bolting it down. While I think the Hayman Floor safe with the upgraded 1' door would be a more impenetrable option, I very much like the access and storage organization within this unit. Instead of accessing it by being above the safe opening, I access it from beside the safe. When I open it up, I can easily see and reach everything. Finally, I must say that Dye and Dominic at The Safe and Vault Store were tremendously helpful and patient with me as I spent months peppering them with on-line chat questions and e-mails. They guided me through the selection process without telling me what to do. A very delicate balance for sure ... their support was very helpful for a first time safe buyer.

We did a lot of research, including the Safe and Vault Store customer service line and we talked to a couple of manufacturers directly. The advice the Safe and Vault Store customer service gave us was excellent. We finally on the DV-2219 and researched prices in our local stores and on the internet. Safe and Vault Store had by far the best price.
