FireKing, sometimes written Fire King, has built fire-resistant filing cabinets in New Albany, Indiana, since 1951, and today it is the only manufacturer still producing fire-resistant filing cabinets in the United States. FireKing builds its fire files to the UL 72 Class 350 standard, which means the cabinet interior stays below 350 degrees Fahrenheit for the full length of its rating, safely under the temperature where paper chars. FireKing cabinets also pass a 30-foot drop test, so a cabinet that falls through a burning floor keeps protecting what is inside, and some models add protection against impact damage and even explosions. Have a special requirement, space constraint, or budget concern? There is almost certainly a FireKing model that fits.
Vertical fire files. The classic FireKing vertical file comes in letter and legal widths, two, three, or four drawer heights, and 25-inch or 31-inch depths, with one hour of certified fire protection. The FireKing 4-1825-C four drawer letter file is the workhorse of the line, and Premium Designer versions of most models add upgraded finish options.
Two-hour vertical files. For records that need to withstand a longer, hotter fire, the two-hour series doubles the protection window. The FireKing 4-2157-2 covers four drawers of legal filing with a two hour rating.
Lateral fire files. Side-by-side filing in 31-inch, 38-inch, and 44-inch widths and two, three, or four drawer heights. The counter-height FireKing 2-3122-C fits under most work surfaces at just under 28 inches tall.
Turtle and Turtle Contour. The Turtle is FireKing's most budget-friendly fire file, in a compact 22-inch depth like the FireKing 2R1822-C. The Turtle Contour is the newest generation of that platform, a UL 1-hour rated file restyled for modern offices.
Patriot series. Vertical filing for letter and legal documents in two and four drawer builds, like the FireKing 4P1825-C.
Safe-In-A-File and specialty files. The FireKing 2S1822-DDSSF Safe-In-A-File combines fire rated file drawers with a built-in security safe, so one cabinet protects paperwork, valuables, and digital media together. FireKing also builds a mobile pedestal file that rolls under a desk and a four drawer card and note file for index-size records.
Fire rated safes. FireKing's KF safes come in two series. The compact KF models, like the FireKing KF0812-1WHE, are fire rated only and carry no burglary protection, so they fit situations where fire is the main concern. From the FireKing KF1114-1WHE all the way up to the FireKing KF5322-1WHE, the largest in the series at just over 59 inches tall, the KF safes are both burglary and fire rated, a better fit when you are protecting cash and valuables from theft as well as fire.
SureSeal chests. The SureSeal line protects documents and digital media from both fire and water in a carry-out format. The FireKing SS104 holds legal-size documents and carries a UL Class 350 one hour fire rating.
Under-counter safes. Built for retail cash control, the FireKing MS1K-SG4440 lets staff drop large bills at the point of sale instead of leaving them in the till. Browse all under counter safes for more depository options.
Compact security safes. FireKing rounds out the line with the ML1007 portable safe, the LT1507 laptop safe, and the EX0915 Executive handgun safe.
The CF series secure storage cabinets, like the FireKing CF4436-D, lock up inventory and sensitive supplies, with medical versions built for controlled storage. For workshops and facilities that store fuel, solvents, or other combustible liquids, FireKing's SC series flammable safety cabinets come in 30, 45, and 60 gallon sizes, like the FireKing SC60, and meet UL/ULC, OSHA, NFPA, and ANSI requirements.
Start with what you are filing. Letter and legal verticals handle standard office records, laterals hold more linear filing inches per cabinet and double as counter space, and the Turtle's 22-inch depth suits tighter rooms.
Match the rating to the risk. One hour models cover most homes and single-story offices, where fire departments typically knock a fire down quickly. Choose a two hour model for irreplaceable records, rural properties with longer response times, or upper floors of commercial buildings, where FireKing's impact rating matters most: a cabinet that drops through a failing floor must keep its seal.
Paper and digital media have different limits. Class 350 ratings protect paper, but hard drives, tape, and flash media fail at much lower temperatures. For digital backups, use a Safe-In-A-File, a SureSeal chest, or a dedicated model from our data and media safes collection.
Plan the delivery path before you order. Fire files are dramatically heavier than standard office cabinets because of the insulation that earns the rating. Give us a call before ordering and we will walk through doorways, stairs, and placement with you.
FireKing fire files are built to the UL 72 Class 350 standard, meaning the interior stays below 350 degrees Fahrenheit while the cabinet withstands furnace testing for its full rated time, one or two hours depending on the model. Paper chars at higher temperatures than that, so documents inside survive the rating period.
FireKing has manufactured its fire-resistant filing cabinets in New Albany, Indiana, since 1951, and it is the only company still building fire-resistant filing cabinets in the United States.
FireKing fire files pass a test in which the cabinet is dropped 30 feet, simulating a fall through a collapsing floor during a fire. The cabinet must stay closed and keep protecting its contents after the impact, which is why FireKing files are a common choice for upper-floor offices.
A standard Class 350 file protects paper, not electronics, because digital media is damaged well below 350 degrees. For drives, tape, and discs, choose the Safe-In-A-File, a SureSeal chest, or a purpose-built data and media safe.
Yes. FireKing builds fire rated safes, SureSeal document chests, under-counter depository safes, secure storage cabinets, and flammable safety cabinets, and this collection includes all of them.
