Contacta STS-K023 UL 752 Level 8 Ballistic Glass-Mounted Window Intercom System

The Contacta STS-K023 is a glass-mounted window intercom system with a UL 752 Level 8 ballistic-rated STS-BL8 customer-side unit, built for the highest-security indoor service counters where the customer side is behind rifle-rated bullet-resistant glass. Level 8 is the top of Contacta's UL 752 ballistic ladder and is engineered to survive rifle-caliber threats, not just handgun rounds. This is the kit for military and federal building visitor windows, embassy consular sections at high-threat posts, courthouse and federal marshal service windows in high-security jurisdictions, maximum-security correctional facility visitor stations, cash-transfer and armored-car counters with rifle-rated glass, nuclear regulatory and defense contractor reception windows, and any other service position where the barrier is specified as UL 752 Level 8 and the intercom hardware needs to match the rating of the glass.

The complete kit includes a Contacta STS-BL8 UL 752 Level 8 rated customer-side speaker and microphone puck with the glass mounting kit, an STS-SU1-3W-SIL-400 Silver Sparkle finished staff unit with a 15.75-inch gooseneck microphone stem and a 5W speaker for the operator, an STS-A31H-BL8 window intercom amplifier, an IL-AE98 window-mounted hearing loop aerial for T-coil hearing aid users, and a PS-55 power supply.

Behind the scenes, the STS-BL8 customer unit runs 5 W RMS into 4 ohms with 85 dB SPL output at 1 watt / 1 meter across a 150 Hz to 10,300 Hz speech-tuned range on the speaker side, and an omnidirectional microphone with a 100 Hz to 10,000 Hz response tuned to pick up the customer's voice from any angle at the puck. The staff-side STS-SU1-3W speaker matches the customer-side speaker specs, so both sides of the conversation have the same audio character. The STS-A31H-BL8 amplifier precision-drives both sides with less than 5 percent total harmonic distortion. The full system is CE, RoHS, and WEEE compliant; the amplifier meets FCC Class B EMC emissions and ICES-003; the customer-side hardware is UL 752 Level 8 ballistic-rated.

FAQS:

Q: What does UL 752 Level 8 mean and what does it protect against?
A: UL 752 is Underwriters Laboratories' standard for ballistic-resistant materials, equipment, and armor. Level 8 within that standard specifies that the hardware is tested to stop five rounds of 7.62mm NATO M80 rifle ball ammunition (roughly equivalent to .308 Winchester) fired from 15 feet at approximately 2,750 feet per second. This is a rifle-caliber threat model, several tiers above the handgun-rated Levels 1 through 4, and is the specification typically required for military installations, federal facilities in high-threat postings, and maximum-security correctional visitor stations. The STS-BL8 customer-side puck is engineered to survive that threat profile from the customer side of the glass, keeping the intercom operational during the same event the ballistic glass is protecting against. Call us at 800-207-2259 if you need help matching the intercom rating to a specific installation.

Q: When should I pick the STS-K023 over the Level 3 STS-K022 or the non-ballistic STS-K021?
A: Pick the K023 if your glass supplier has specified UL 752 Level 8 or if your installation's threat model includes rifle-caliber small-arms fire. Pick the STS-K022 if your glass is UL 752 Level 3 and the threat model is limited to handgun rounds. Pick the non-ballistic STS-K021 if the glass is standard security acrylic or laminated glass without any ballistic rating. Match the intercom's ballistic rating to the barrier the glass supplier specified.

Q: How does the hearing loop work?
A: The included IL-AE98 aerial is a thin 8.5" x 8.5" panel that mounts on the window and broadcasts the intercom audio directly into T-coil equipped hearing aids in the immediate area, giving hearing-aid users a clean signal without ambient noise.

Q: How many components come in the kit?
A: The complete set includes the STS-A31H-BL8 window intercom amplifier, STS-SU1-3W-SIL-400 Silver Sparkle staff speaker and microphone unit, STS-BL8 UL 752 Level 8 ballistic-rated customer-side speaker and microphone puck with glass mounting kit, IL-AE98 window-mounted hearing loop aerial, and PS-55 power supply.

Q: Is installation more involved than the lower-rated glass-mount kits?
A: The electronics are plug-and-play, same as the K021 and K022. The Level 8 ballistic-rated glass mount does require careful installation to preserve the barrier's rating, and Level 8 barriers are typically thicker and heavier than Level 3, so plan for a glass installer experienced with rifle-rated ballistic-glass hole preparation, gasketing, and load-bearing hardware if the glass isn't already in place with a hole cut.

We offer a 30-day return policy on unused, in-original-condition products. The return freight for a heavy safe is substantial, so we strongly encourage you to call us before ordering if you're unsure about fit or configuration. See full return policy →

Can I place my order by phone?

Yes. Call us Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm Pacific at 800-207-2259. You have two options: we can take the full order by phone (we pause the call recording before you read your card number, so payment info is never stored), or we can build your order and email you a payable invoice link so you can enter your own payment details securely.
