Custom Safe Building: From Concept to Completion with SafeandVaultStore

For homeowners contemplating the investment in a custom safe, understanding the entire process from the initial idea to the final product is essential. Each step is designed to ensure that your custom safe meets your unique needs and expectations.

In this blog, we'll explore the typical timeline and various factors that can influence how long it takes to build your custom safe.

The Journey from Concept to Completion

After discussing your specific requirements with us, your requests are forwarded to our safe manufacturer. In 3-5 business days, you'll receive a custom drawing and a quote, offering a visual representation of your future luxury safe. We keep you constantly informed so there is no confusion.

Approval and Payment

Upon reviewing and approving the custom drawing, you'll sign it to confirm all the details. Upfront payment is required at this stage to place your order and initiate the building process.

Average Lead Time

The average lead time for constructing a custom luxury safe ranges from 10 to 14 weeks. This period allows us to focus on every detail, ensuring your safe is not only luxurious but also meets the highest standards of security and craftsmanship.

Factors Influencing the Timeline:

Custom Dimensions

One of the primary reasons for opting for a custom safe is the need for specific dimensions to fit a designated space. The size of your safe, including external features like handles, hinges, and locks, can influence the construction timeline.

Generally, larger safes may take more time to build than smaller ones.

Material Selection

Safe Materials can impact the requirements for time when building a safe. You will want to decide how much security you want and that will determine how thick the steel is. A B-Rating is a 1/2" steel door and a 1/4" steel body. A C-Rating is 1" steel door and 1/2" steel body. The thicker the steel, the higher security you will have. We can also build custom TL-15 and TL-30 safes as well.

You can read up on the different burglar ratings and what they mean to help you determine which one to select. Expect some variation in building times when evaluating the rating of the safe and the steel materials.

Hinge Location

The Location of the Hinge or Hinges Another common reason to purchase a custom safe is due to needing a left-hand hinge. The hinge location may not seem complex, but the actual placement can impact the building time. When you order a custom safe, we ask for details like the location of the hinge, or how you prefer to open the door of the safe.

Depending on the location, the difficulty of installing the hinge may vary and impact the time required for the building process.

Typically this only adds about a week to the total process for a non-standard hinge. Fire Ratings Fire ratings refer to the resistance to heat and fire in an emergency situation. You can choose for your new custom safe between having no fire rating (just a steel safe), a 1 hour or 2-hour rating.

The longer the rating, the heavier your safe will be as more fire material needs to be used. This also can impact the build time of your safe.

This also can impact the build time of your safe.

Locking Mechanisms

From traditional key locks to modern digital systems, the type of lock you choose can influence the construction time. Options for multiple user combinations and audit trail locks are also available.

If you want to put in a complex locking system on your safe, then it may impact the amount of time required to build your safe.

Interior Customization

Interior Details Interior details refer to the shelving or storage solutions used inside the safe. While a small safe may not have any interior details, larger safes often provide organizational tools like multiple shelves to help keep items or paperwork separated. Other interiors include drawers with organizers for jewelry (watches, rings, necklaces).

For businesses, we can offer interior lockable compartments to keep things separated and only the manager or owner would have access with a key or combination.

Additional Information

As a standard procedure, we collect all your specifications and send them to a safe manufacturer for a quote. You can expect to receive this quote within 24-48 hours. If you decide to cancel your order, it must be done within 48 hours. Any damage upon delivery should be reported immediately, and you have the option to refuse the safe at that time.

Custom Business Safes

Not just limited to homeowners, we also offer custom safes tailored for businesses. Whether you need a safe for sensitive documents or high-value items, SafeandVaultStore has got you covered.
