Custom Safe Building: From Concept to Completion

Custom safe building from concept to completion with SafeandVaultStore

For homeowners contemplating the investment in a custom safe, understanding the entire process from the initial idea to the final product is essential. Each step is designed to make sure your custom safe meets your unique needs and expectations.

In this article, we cover the typical timeline and the various factors that can influence how long it takes to build your custom safe.

The Journey from Concept to Completion

After discussing your specific requirements with us, your requests are forwarded to our safe manufacturer. Within 3 to 5 business days, you'll receive a custom drawing and a quote, offering a visual representation of your future luxury safe. We keep you constantly informed so there is no confusion.

Approval and Payment

After you review and approve the custom drawing, you'll sign it to confirm all the details. Upfront payment is required at this stage to place your order and initiate the build process.

Average Lead Time

The average lead time for constructing a custom luxury safe ranges from 10 to 14 weeks. This period allows us to focus on every detail, so your safe is not only luxurious but also meets the highest standards of security and craftsmanship.

Factors Influencing the Timeline

Custom Dimensions

One of the primary reasons for opting for a custom safe is the need for specific dimensions to fit a designated space. The size of your safe, including external features like handles, hinges, and locks, can influence the construction timeline. Larger safes generally take more time to build than smaller ones.

Material Selection

Safe materials directly affect build time. You need to decide how much security you want, and that determines how thick the steel is. A B-Rate is a 1/2" steel door and a 1/4" steel body. A C-Rate is a 1" steel door and a 1/2" steel body. The thicker the steel, the higher security you get. We can also build custom TL-15 and TL-30 safes.

Read up on the different burglar ratings and what they mean to help you decide which one to select. Expect variation in build times depending on the rating and steel materials.

Hinge Location

Another common reason to purchase a custom safe is needing a left-hand hinge. The hinge location may not seem complex, but the actual placement can affect the build time. When you order a custom safe, we ask for details like the location of the hinge and how you prefer to open the door.

Depending on the location, the difficulty of installing the hinge may vary and affect the time required. A non-standard hinge typically adds about a week to the total process.

Fire Ratings

Fire ratings refer to a safe's resistance to heat and fire in an emergency. You can choose for your new custom safe between no fire rating (steel only), a 1-hour rating, or a 2-hour rating. The longer the rating, the heavier your safe will be because more fire material is required. That can also affect the build time.

Locking Mechanisms

From traditional key locks to modern digital systems, the type of lock you choose can influence construction time. Options for multiple user combinations and audit trail locks are also available. If you want a complex locking system on your safe, expect it to add to the build time.

Interior Customization

Interior details refer to the shelving or storage solutions used inside the safe. A small safe may not have any interior details, but larger safes often provide organizational tools like multiple shelves to help keep items or paperwork separated. Other interiors include drawers with organizers for jewelry (watches, rings, necklaces).

For businesses, we can offer interior lockable compartments to keep things separated, so only the manager or owner has access with a key or combination.

Custom Business Safes

Custom safes are not just for homeowners. We also build custom safes for businesses. Whether you need a safe for sensitive documents or high-value items, Safe and Vault Store has you covered.

Additional Information: As a standard procedure, we collect all your specifications and send them to the safe manufacturer for a quote. You can expect the quote within 24 to 48 hours. If you decide to cancel your order, it must be done within 48 hours. Any damage upon delivery should be reported immediately, and you have the option to refuse the safe at that time.
