Waterproof Safes to Protect Against Leaks, Floods & Sprinklers

A burst pipe, basement leak, or flooded laundry room can ruin documents, photos, electronics, and firearms in minutes. While you can’t stop water emergencies from happening, you can protect what matters most with a waterproof safe.

We carry portable chests, waterproof gun safes, and full-size home and office safes from trusted brands like Cannon, Fire King, Phoenix, SentrySafe, Sports Afield, Vaultek, and more. Many models offer both fire and water protection, so you’re covered from the two most common causes of loss.

Waterproof Protection for Every Situation

💼 Portable Waterproof Fire Chests

Ideal for apartments, condos, and small spaces. These grab-and-go chests protect passports, cash, USB drives, external hard drives, and important paperwork. Many models are tested to keep contents dry even when fully submerged for a set period of time.

🔒 Waterproof Gun Safes

Several gun safe lines now include waterproof ratings in addition to burglary and fire protection. These safes use gasketed doors, sealed boltwork, and reinforced bodies to help keep firearms and ammunition dry during floods, broken pipes, or sprinkler activation.

🏠 Full-Size Waterproof Home & Office Safes

Need room for binders, files, photo albums, backup drives, or family keepsakes? Full-size safes with water-resistant construction and fire ratings give you all-around protection for long-term storage in basements, offices, and utility rooms.

Waterproof Safe FAQs

What makes a safe waterproof?

Waterproof safes typically use gasket seals around the door, tight-fitting boltwork, and sealed internal chambers. During testing, these safes are exposed to specific depths and durations of water to confirm they can keep the interior dry under real-world conditions.

Are all waterproof safes also fireproof?

No. A safe can be waterproof without being fire-rated, and many fire safes offer little or no water protection. If you need both, look for models that clearly list a fire rating (for example, 60 or 120 minutes) and a water rating (submersion time and depth) in the specifications.

Do I really need a waterproof safe?

Waterproof protection is strongly recommended if your safe will be stored in a basement, garage, laundry room, near plumbing, or in an area with a history of leaks or flooding. Even upstairs, sprinkler systems and firefighting efforts can cause water damage, so many customers choose a safe with both fire and water protection.

What if the safe I like isn’t waterproof?

You can still buy a non-waterproof safe and add protection with fire- and water-resistant document bags or pouches inside. This is a great option if you already own a safe or want a specific model that doesn’t include full waterproof testing.

Can a waterproof safe be opened after a flood?

Yes. Waterproof safes are designed so seals keep water out under pressure, but can still be opened once the water recedes. As long as the door is fully closed and latched before the event, your contents should remain dry when you reopen the safe.
