The Contacta STS-SU1-NM is the no-mute variant of Contacta's freestanding speaker and microphone unit, built for the customer side of a window intercom installation. The hardware is physically identical to the staff-side STS-SU1-3W staff unit: same cardioid microphone on a semi-rigid gooseneck with adjustable neck, same 5-watt speaker, same mild-steel freestanding base. The only difference is that the mute switch has been removed from the front of the unit, which is the right choice for the customer side, where you don't want a customer to be able to mute the staff microphone (or their own) during a transaction.
Positioning the STS-SU1-NM on the customer side gives a bank teller window, pharmacy counter, ticket booth, or government service counter a two-way intercom where both sides have an identical speaker-and-microphone unit sitting on the counter in front of them. The customer sees the same hardware the staff member sees, which is reassuring at a service window where mystery hardware behind glass can make customers hesitate to speak clearly. The freestanding base means staff or facilities can slide the unit to the right position for a shorter or taller customer, or move it out of the way during cleaning, without unmounting hardware.
The cardioid directional microphone picks up the customer's voice from directly in front of the microphone head and rejects sound from the sides and rear, which matters at a busy service window where lobby noise, HVAC fan noise, and the next customer's conversation would otherwise bleed into the staff-side audio. The semi-rigid gooseneck lets the customer position the microphone close to their mouth for consistent pickup regardless of posture or height.
The 5-watt speaker runs at 4-ohm impedance with 85 dB SPL output at 1 watt at 1 meter, and a 150 Hz to 10,300 Hz frequency response tuned for clear speech reproduction at desk distance. That is the same speaker output specification the STS-A31H window intercom amplifier is tuned to drive, so the STS-SU1-NM pairs directly with the STS-A31H and the matching staff-side STS-SU1-3W without added crossover or matching hardware.
The STS-SU1-NM ships in Contacta's commercial-grade mild-steel construction with a choice of two powder-coated finishes: Gray (STS-SU1-NM-G) or Black (STS-SU1-NM-B). The unit stands 14.50 inches tall at the top of the gooseneck with a 3.80-inch-wide by 6.02-inch-deep base footprint on the customer counter.
For the staff side of the same installation, pair this unit with the STS-SU1-3W staff unit with dual mute switch. The staff version adds the three-position mute switch that gives the operator on-the-fly control over which microphones are open at any moment. A complete two-way install also needs the STS-A31H amplifier and the PS-55 power supply.
If you're not sure whether the STS-SU1-NM is the right customer-side unit for your installation, please call us at 800-207-2259.

Yes. Free delivery is included on every safe we sell, anywhere in the lower 48 states. The specific delivery method depends on the safe's weight: small package delivery for under 150 lbs, curbside, or garage delivery for heavier safes. See full shipping details →
Shipping timelines vary by product. Check the availability status at the top of this page for the estimated ship date. Once shipped, transit time typically runs 5–10 business days, depending on your location. You'll receive tracking when the safe leaves the warehouse. Safes under 150 lbs ship via UPS or FedEx Ground, no appointment needed. Safes weighing 150 lbs or more ship via freight (LTL); the freight carrier will contact you directly to schedule a delivery appointment once the safe reaches your local terminal.
We don't provide inside delivery directly, but we work with third-party installers across the country who do. Here's how it works: call us at 800-207-2259 for a recommendation in your area, and we'll provide the names and phone numbers of installers we've worked with. You contact the installer directly to arrange pricing for delivery and installation. Once you've agreed on a price, place your order with us using the installer's address as the shipping destination. The installer receives the safe, inspects it, and schedules your final delivery appointment. Some installers prefer to pick the safe up directly from the freight terminal. Check the product's exterior dimensions (listed above) against your narrowest passage, interior doorways, stair landings, and tight turns. Most people remove the safe from the pallet before moving it indoors, so the safe's actual dimensions are what matter for doorways. Standard interior doorways (30–32" clear) accommodate most residential safes, but measure before ordering. Call us if you're uncertain. See where to locate your safe →
Electronic locks: yes; it takes about 30 seconds. Instructions are included with your safe. Mechanical dial locks: no, changing a dial combination requires a licensed safe technician. Important: attempting to change a dial combination yourself (or having an unlicensed locksmith do it) voids the lock warranty. A licensed safe tech maintains the warranty. See lock operating instructions →
Note: Some mechanical pushbutton locks (like Simplex) can be changed by the user without a technician. Check your specific lock's instructions.
Call us immediately — while you have 24 hours to report damage, calling right away gets the claim filed faster. Take photos of the damage and packaging before moving anything. For minor cosmetic damage, we typically send touch-up paint plus a partial refund. For significant damage, we send replacement parts or arrange a full replacement. Order Protection (optional at checkout) speeds refund payouts to 48–72 hours vs. 30–60 days through standard freight claims; replacement safes ship on the manufacturer's normal timeline regardless. We offer a 30-day return policy on unused, in-original-condition products. The return freight for a heavy safe is substantial, so we strongly encourage you to call us before ordering if you're unsure about fit or configuration. See full return policy →
